Embiid:”I’m the best defender in the league!”
Joel Embiid from the Philadelphia 76ers has played a really strong season so far. The center is currently recording an average double-double. The Cameroonian, however, does not want to be reduced just because of this. He also sees himself as the best defender in the complete NBA.
“I think I’m the best defensive player in the league,”said Embiid to The Inquirer,”I’m getting better and better. In contrast to last season, I’m blocking fewer throws than last season, but I’m rebounding better,” says the Big Man, who has played an average of 22.7 points, 11.0 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 15 games.
The Cameroonian is not yet in top form. Lastly, he jokingly said that he felt at 81 percent of his normal form. In March Embiid had to undergo another knee surgery that ended his season prematurely.”I’m not quite where I want to be yet, but it’s getting better.”
Top form or not: Embiid’s influence on the game of the Sixers is enormous, especially at the back of the court. When Embiid is on the field, Philly only allows 96.6 points to 100 possessions. This is the absolute top value in the team. If the Cameroonian sits on the bench, the Sixers have to accept 107.6 points.
