FC Bayern Munich Basketball has consolidated its lead in the Bundesliga, despite some difficulties, with its eighth consecutive victory. At Science City Jena the team of coach Sasa Djordjevic won 85:78 (44:48) and leads with 22:2 points ahead of Alba Berlin (18:6) and the MHP giant Ludwigsburg (16:2).
Ludwigsburg, which played three games less than the Bayern, won 93:61 (45:25) against BG Göttingen on Sunday. It was already the sixth success in a row. Berlin had already won easily against the Giessen 46ers on Friday (88:66).
Master Brose Bamberg scored a clear 83-65 (34-26) victory over Telekom Baskets Bonn on Sunday evening, but the Franconians showed a mixed performance. In the new edition of last season’s play-off quarter-final, the fifth place (14:8 points) at the start of the final quarter was a decisive success.
In Jena, the leader of the standings, Munich, who lost international Danilo Barthel because of a knee injury, had to work hard to maintain his winning streak. It was only 19 seconds before the end that Milan Macvan made the 85:78 basket perfect. Braydon Hobbs was the best caster of the guests (14).
“You have played at the highest level. You have to pay them respect,”said Hobbs at Telekom Sport. Jenas coach Björn Harmsen said:”We came out with a lot of energy. It was a very good performance on our part.”
On Saturday, medi Bayreuth had won the derby against s. Oliver Würzburg 86:80 (35:39) and consolidated his place in the top group. James Robinson and Nate Linhart (13 points each) were the best throwers among the hosts, ranking fourth. The top scorer of the tenth place Würzburg was again national team captain Robin Benzing (21).
