NFL: Objection overruled!
The past matchday had some unsightly scenes to offer – Rob Gronkowski’s attack on Bills Cornerback Tre’ Davious White was at the top of the list. Just like Steelers receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, Gronk has been suspended – and the suspension remains in place.
Both had appealed against the suspension, in both cases they were rejected. Gronkowski misses out on the Monday Night Game against the Dolphins, while Smith-Schuster misses Pittsburgh’s divisional duel with the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday evening.
Gronk had lost his composure after an interception with his opponent White. When the play was over, he attacked his opponent with the ball on the ground by throwing himself visibly angry at him. White had previously given Gronkowski a push, but there was no punishment – the Cornerback had suffered a concussion.
New England’s tight end said after the game:”First of all, I definitely want to apologize to him (White). It’s not my way. There was a lot of frustration at that moment and it just happened through the emotions. I want to apologize to Tre’ Davious White.”
Asked what frustrated him, he added:”I felt like he had pushed me away. I don’t understand why there was no flag. It happened a couple of times in the course of the game. Against me they whistle the craziest things at all and I mean – what should I do? Then don’t whistle. I was just frustrated about it. That’s all that happened.”
Smith-Schuster, however, had been suspended for a crackback block against Vontaze Burfict with a subsequent taunting penalty in the Monday Night Game against the Bengals. According to the League in a statement, he was “banned from dangerous and unsportsmanlike actions”. Smith-Schuster had publicly apologized to Burfict via Twitter.
