Olympic Games: 22 Russian athletes take legal action against Olympic suspensions

Twenty-two Russian athletes are taking legal action against their lifelong Olympic barriers. The International Sports Court CAS reported on Wednesday that the complaints had been received there.

CAS also announced that the athletes had applied for a decision to be taken before the Winter Games in Pyeongchang (09. till 25. February) should fall.

Due to the doping scandal, the IOC has now excluded 25 Russian athletes for all Olympic functions. Among them are the double Olympic champion Alexander Subkov, who is now president of the Russian bobsleigh and skeleton federation, as well as the Sochi winners Alexander Legkov (cross-country skiing) and Alexander Tretyakov (skeleton).

In total, the so-called Oswald Commission is investigating 36 cases of Russian athletes who are said to have benefited from manipulations at the Winter Games in Sochi.

On Tuesday evening, the IOC had excluded Russia from the upcoming winter games in Pyeongchang because of the doping scandal, but allowed Russian athletes to start as “Olympic athlete of Russia” under certain conditions. This was done on the basis of the results of a second commission chaired by the Swiss Samuel Schmid.
