NFL: Cowboy receiver Dez Bryant: Salary cut?”No way”

For Dez Bryant, the bottom line is a massively disappointing season, as the Dallas Cowboy receiver seems to be nothing more than a number two receiver at the moment. However, he does not want to agree to a restructuring of his contract.

Bryant stands for 814 yards in the current season at 66 catches, his last 1,000 yards season was 2014. His 12.3 yards per catch is a personal career low, Bryant has been waiting since 22 (!) regular season games for a 100 yard game.

However, all this is no reason for the 29-year-old to agree to an adjustment of his contract to his own benefits. When asked if he would agree to a pay cut, Bryant replied according to the Dallas Morning News:”We didn’t have any talks about it, but if it happens – I don’t know. Probably not. No, absolutely not. I believe in myself.”

He admitted that the current season was “frustrating” for him and openly criticized the scheme. However, he added:”I’m a great football player, I know that. I believe in that.”

Bryant still has two years left on his five-year contract: in 2018 and 2019 he will charge the cowboy’s cap with 16.5 million dollars. If Dallas were to release him in 2018, a dead cap of eight million dollars would be in place. In 2019, if you let him go, that’s four million.
