NFL: Tennessee Titans hold fast to head coach Mike Mularkey
The Tennessee Titans will hold on to Mike Mularkey as head coach. The assured team owner Amy Adams Strunk in a statement on Sunday. On Saturday there were rumours that a play-off could have been the end for Mularkey.
Several media had reported a possible dismissal of Mularkey at the Kansas City Chiefs (22:21 Titans) in the run-up to the wildcard game of the Titans. Even potential successor candidates such as offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels of the New England Patriots were traded. Then, however, Tennessee won surprisingly abroad.
Adams Strunk’s statement, which was spread by the Titans on Sunday, says:”Our mantra throughout the season has been to look at things from week to week and not to look too far ahead,”said Adams Strunk, adding:”I regret that rumours have been spread from outside. No one is a bigger supporter of Mike Mularkey than I have been over the last two years and more. Mike and General Manager Jon Robinson have changed the culture of our team and I’m so happy that we were able to bring success back to the field for our fans – we’ve won 19 games over the last two seasons, including our first playoff win in nine years”.
Adams Strunk concluded:”In order to avoid further disruption in the near future, Mike Mularkey is our head coach and will remain our head coach in the future. We still have work to do, but I look forward to our further journey.”
