NFL: Divisional Playoffs: Philadelphia Eagles as underdog against Atlanta Falcons
Playoffs, baby! On Saturday, the first game of the Divisional Round will take place in the NFC. In the Lincoln Financial Field, the Philadelphia Eagles receive the Atlanta Falcons. Although Atlanta, nominally the worst team in the NFC, reached the playoffs and the Eagles are the top-ranked franchise with a home advantage in the entire playoffs, last year’s Super Bowl participant is the favourite. SPOX tells you what you need to know about the game and where you can see the NFL playoffs.
The divisional round between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Atlanta Falcons saw the world go wild: While some of them booked their tickets for the playoffs early in the regular season and even the NFC franchise, which is number one in the NFC’s ranking, is home advantageous in the playoffs, the others have been bogged down in the game for a long time. Only by the way, the Falcons got into the wildcard playoffs and yet on Saturday they are probably the favourite team in the Lincoln Financial Field.
The reasons for this are twofold: On the one hand, the Falcons showed both in Week 17 against the Carolina Panthers and in the Wildcard against the strong LA Rams, which can be counted on despite their mixed regular season in the fight for the NFC championship. On the other hand, the Philadelphia Eagles have been missing the heart of their offensive since week 14. Quarterback Carson Wentz pulled a torn cruciate ligament against the LA Rams.
In the last three games, Backup Nick Foles, who may not be a bad player, took over, but with Foles instead of Wentz, the Eagles will be the fourth or fifth best team at the conference, with a significant weakness that the competition doesn’t have. Especially the Falcons have shown a good balance of good defensive and controlled offensive with brilliant moments in the final phase of the season.
For example, quarterback Matt Ryan’s third-down conversion against the Rams eight minutes before the end of the match, which took place at 19:13, was the game’s own half and finally opened the door to the Falcons’ divisional round. For the Eagles the strong Defense (38 SCK, 19 INT) and the Special Teams have to get the coals out of the fire. Nevertheless, Atlanta is the number six of the NFC as a favourite, and will probably meet the top seeded Eagles.
The first game of the Divisional Round will be broadcast on free-to-air television on ProSieben. There is also a live stream to the game on ran. de.
