NFL: Houston Texans extend contract with Head Coach Bill O’ Brien
The Houston Texans have set the course for the future and extended the contract of Head Coach Bill O’ Brien. In addition, the commitment of the new General Manager has been made official.
O’ Brien, who has been in office since 2014, extended his deal, which runs until the end of 2018, for another four years until the end of the 2022 season. This was accompanied by a five-year contract for GM Brian Gaine, who succeeds Rick Smith, who resigned from his position for family reasons.
“Bill O’ Brien has been a tremendous leader for us over the past four years and we believe in his vision for the team in the future,”said team owner Bob McNair in a statement,”Bill is a fantastic teacher that players respect. We have great confidence in him that he will build a consistent culture of success and we are excited to have him as our head coach in the future.”
Gaine returns to the Texans, having most recently served as Vice President of Player Personnel for Buffalo Bills. From 2014 to 2016 he held this position in Houston until he was appointed Director of Player Personnel.
