NFL: Media: Schottenheim’s new Seahawks campaign coordinator

The Seattle Seahawks have apparently found their new offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer, according to consistent reports after the Seahawks fired several coaches just a few days ago.

Among others, NFL network insider Ian Rapoport and ESPN report that Schottenheimer will take over the Seahawks-Offense. According to Rapoport, he is said to have been the preferred candidate in Seattle, and a deal is expected soon.

Only this week the Seahawks separated from offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell and offensive line coach Tom Cable. Cable has already found a new job and will train the Oakland Raiders’ offensive line under Jon Gruden. Schottenheimer was most recently the offensive coordinator of the New York Jets (2006 to 2011) and the Rams (2012 to 2014) as well as a quarterback coach for the Indianapolis Colts.

His main task will be to install a scheme that gives the offense an identity and a base. Too often last season, the offense depended entirely on Quarterback Russell Wilson’s improvisation skills: Wilson is the first quarterback in NFL history to be responsible for 100 percent of his team’s passing yards and more than 30 percent of his team’s passing yards in one season.

The exact approach that Schottenheimer is going to choose can be eagerly awaited. It seems clear: Not only because the Seahawks had clearly noticeable problems here in the past few years, Schottenheimer is likely to place a strong focus on the Run Game.
