Cycling: Tour Down Under: Greipel loses overall lead – victory for Ewan

Andre Greipel (Rostock) clearly missed another stage win at the Tour Down Under in Australia. The 35-year-old from Team Lotto-Soudal dropped out of the main field prematurely on the 148.6 km long second stage from Unley to Stirling and did not enter the sprint for victory.

Local hero Caleb Ewan (Mitchelton-Scott) won the race ahead of his team mate Daryl Impey (South Africa) and Jay McCarthy (Australia/Bora-hansgrohe). With this success, Ewan also took over the overall lead of record-breaking top-of-the-range winner Greipel, who finished 7:21 minutes behind on 104th position. Rank reached.

On Thursday, the third stage leads 146.5 km from Glenelg to Victor Harbor. The Tour Down Under ends after six stages on Sunday in Adelaide.
