Handball European Championship: Czech Republic enters the main round and meets DHB team

The Czech Republic has qualified for the main round of the European Handball Championship in Croatia and, like Spain and Denmark, is one of the opponents of defending champions Germany.

The Czechs beat Hungary at the end of Group D in Varazdin 33:27 (15:11) to secure their place in the next stage of the tournament, where they took home two points.

The Czech team had opened the gate to the main round with a surprising 28-27 against Olympic champion Denmark after losing to runners-up Spain 15:32. Hungary, with former Flensburg coach Ljubomir Vranjes, is the last to go home with no points. The Magyars had already lost to Denmark (25:32) and Spain (25:27).

The former Bundesliga professional Ondrej Zdrahala with 14 goals was the most outstanding Czech player. The coach Jan Filip’s team had to overcome a number of weaknesses, but thanks to their outstanding goalkeeper Martin Galia, they managed to secure their second win in the end.
