NFL: Titans introduces Mike Vrabel as new Head Coach
The Tennessee Titans presented their new head coach: Mike Vrabel, defensive coordinator of Houston Texans, took over the Titans and was introduced in Nashville on Monday.
He wanted to build a “big, fast, smart and disciplined football team”, Vrabel explained at his performance in Tennessee. He had already talked to quarterback Marcus Mariota on Sunday evening, and it was important for him to put Mariota in a good position.
At the same time, however, Vrabel also stressed that he did not have a concrete timetable for putting together his coaching staff. It is more important to find “the right guys”. Especially the offensive coaches will be closely watched, the development of Quarterback Mariota has to be given top priority – under the previous coaching staff this impression was not always present.
The Titans had broken up with Mike Mularkey after a strange roller coaster ride. Before the end of the regular season there were rumours that Mularkey would be fired if the Titans missed the playoffs.
Tennessee beat Jacksonville and released his ticket, but the rumors held – until the Titans surprisingly also won the wildcard round in Kansas City and team owner Amy Adams Strunk publicly declared that Mularkey remains. After the bankruptcy of the Patriots in the Divisional round, the division finally followed, presumably also because Mularkey did not want to get a new offensive coordinator. Now there’s a new start with Vrabel.
