Handball-EM: All information about Germany vs. Spain

After a close defeat against Denmark (25:26) Germany will face Spain on Wednesday (20:30) to win the semi-finals. At least if the competition plays along. Here you can find out where you can watch the game on TV or follow it on LIVETICKER. In addition, there is all important information about the DHB team.

One thing is clear: the DHB team has their backs to the wall and must defeat the Spaniards, which is the basic requirement:”Our full focus is on the game against Spain,”said Christian Prokop. The team had to “recharge their batteries” and “prepare themselves perfectly” on the two days off. Our overall package must certainly become even better in order to beat Spain,”said the national coach.

Above all, Germany can no longer afford to make the mistakes that it made in its good performance against Denmark:”We fought, but we made some unfortunate decisions. We were a bit too naive,”Prokop said after the Danish game.

The Bad Boys’ defensive performance is encouraging:”We fought a great battle, and we did an excellent job in defending ourselves,” said Prokop, who was also supported by DHB Vice President Bob Hanning:”In 6-6, we defended superbly, but only with the seventh fielder things got difficult.

In the final game of the main round in Varazdin, all the factors have to fit in order to win and then go to the final round in Zagreb.

The public broadcasters have secured the broadcasting rights to the German games. The match against Spain will be broadcast by ZDF. The second one also offers a live stream.

All information about the tournament in general, Group 1 and the German team can be found here.

Against the Spaniards DHB-Coach Prokop will not be able to fall back on Paul Drux. The Berliner injured his knee in the defeat against Denmark. Damage to the inner meniscus was found, which is why Drux flew back to Berlin on Monday to undergo surgery there.

“This is a heavy blow for Paul, the national team and the foxes Berlin”, said Axel Kromer, the board member for sports of the German Handball Federation:”We wish Paul good luck for the operation and an optimal recovery.

Two years ago, Germany and the Spaniards confronted each other in the European Championship final in Krakow. And what a match for the German troops! Andreas Wolff held everything, the defence around Finn Lemke and Hendrik Pekeler robbed the Spaniards of their last nerve and the then re-nominated Kai Häfner was with seven booths the best throwers. The result: 24:17!
