Handball European Championship: Hanning announces “honest and hard analysis” after European Championships close down

One day after the disappointing final round of the European Championships in Croatia, the DHB announced a major overhaul. Vice President Bob Hanning promised a “serious, honest and hard analysis”. Hanning said on Thursday before the return trip,”I’d have to start with the coaching staff and every single player.

DHB President Andreas Michelmann did not want to gloss over the situation:”We have not reached our sporting goal. We accept our responsibility. We will evaluate everything thoroughly and then say more about it,”said Michelmann.

National coach Christian Prokop had ruled out resignation after the 27:31 defeat against Spain. One year before the home World Cup, however, the German handball team showed little courage:”There’s not much missing, but there’s not enough,”said Hanning, who wants to stick to his “non-negotiable visions” of the 2019 World Cup medal and the Olympic gold medal in Tokyo in 2020.
