Cycling: sex and corruption scandal: Polish President resigns from office
The president of the Polish Cycling Federation PZKol resigned on Friday because of a sex and corruption scandal. Dariusz Banaszek, who has been at the top of PZKol since 2016, made the decision according to his own statements “for the benefit of cycling”.
Members of the association’s management are accused of having committed sexual offences – including rapes. The accusations were made by the former PZKol Vice-President Piotr Kosmala.
In response to the accusations, Poland’s Minister of Sport Witold Banka had asked the members of the association’s management to resign and cut funds. PZKol is heavily indebted, the accounts were seized according to the Polish news agency PAP.
In December, eight out of nine Board members had already resigned, and now Banaszek was also following suit.
