Olympics 2018:242 athletes: USA with record numbers in Pyeongchang
The USA will be competing with a record crowd at the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang (9. till 25. February). On Friday, the National Olympic Committee USOC nominated 242 athletes, more than ever before, from a participating nation for the Winter Games.
The team consists of 135 men and 107 women, with 97 out of 102 medal decisions being made by US athletes in South Korea. 103 participants return to the Olympic Games, including three five-time gold medal winners. Snowboarder Kelly Clark and cross-country skier Kikkan Randall are the first US women to compete in the Olympics for the fifth time.
The US line-up includes 37 medallists, five gold medals in Sochi/Russia in 2014: Jamie Anderson (Snowboard/Slopestyle), Maddie Bowman (Ski-Freestyle/Halfpipe), Ted Ligety (Ski alpine/giant slalom), Mikaela Shiffrin (Ski alpine/slalom) and David Wise (Ski-Freestyle/Halfpipe).
