Olympia 2018: Cruciate ligament rupture: Olympic dream for Nyman shattered
The American ski racer Steve Nyman has suffered a rupture of the cruciate ligament in his right knee and will be competing at the Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang (9th place). till 25. February) are missing.
This was announced by the US association on Monday. The 35-year-old Nyman was seriously injured last Thursday at the downhill practice in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In Pyeongchang he would have taken part in his fourth winter games.
“I was really looking forward to representing not only my country but also to fighting for a medal,”said Nyman. His coach Sasha Rearick called the injury a “great loss for the American team”.
Last year, Nyman had already suffered a torn cruciate ligament in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, but at that time in his left knee. In December he made his comeback at the World Cup in Val Gardena, Italy. Nyman has been on the podium eleven times so far in his career in the World Cup. He celebrated his three victories each time in Val Gardena.
