NBA: Monroe-Buyout – Are the Celtics beating?
According to corresponding media reports, the Phoenix Suns agreed on a buyout with Center Greg Monroe on Wednesday. Monroe could join any team.
The Unrestricted Free Agent is being wooed by the Boston Celtics and the New Orleans Pelicans, ESPN reports. However, Celtics could offer Monroe much more money. Due to Gordon Hayward’s injury, Boston has a $8.4 million Disabled Player Exception that could be used at least partially for Monroe.
Monroe would have earned a total of $17.8 million this season, but it is unclear how much of the remaining $7 million he has now received. Phoenix had acquired the center in the trade from Eric Bledsoe to Milwaukee and had been trying to trade it for a pick ever since.
Monroe scored an average of 11.2 points and 8 rebounds in the Suns in 23 minutes. He will be placed on the Waiver list on Thursday and will stay there for 48 hours unless he is claimed for his old salary, which is unrealistic. Upon expiration of the deadline, he will become an Unrestricted Free Agent.
