Basketball: Bamberg surprises with clear victory against Panathinaikos
The German basketball champion Brose Bamberg made amends for the last few less convincing appearances in front of his home crowd and boosted his self-confidence for the league duel at Alba Berlin on Sunday.
The 21st. After a surprising 95:74 (42:32) win against the Greek champion Panathinaikos Athens, the team from Bamberg celebrated their first match of the EuroLeague.
For the hosts, it was the first success after four defeats in a row last Sunday, following two bankruptcies in the EuroLeague, the loss in the cup and the bitter defeat in the Bundesliga at Telekom Baskets Bonn (69:106). Bamberg advanced to twelfth place in the standings with eight victories and 13 defeats.
Against the favourites from Greece Bamberg was particularly convincing in the final phase. In the last quarter, the Franconians scored 38 points and the best throwers for Bamberg were Augustine Rubit with 26 points.
