NFL:”Ridiculous”: Butler defends himself – Brady supports him
The de facto suspension of Malcolm Butler in the Super Bowl is the big mystery after the game. The patriots kept the Cornerback on the bench all through the game, despite obvious defensive problems – butler now resisted some insinuations.
Rumor had it that Butler – who had played more snaps in the regular season than any other patriot defender – didn’t make a defense snap in the Super Bowl. This had far-reaching consequences for the patriots and forced them into unfavourable matchups, but coach Bill Belichick remained stubborn.
Among other things, there was speculation that Butler must have committed some serious team rule violation. The Cornerback now clearly fought against this via Twitter:”I didn’t go to a concert during the Super Bowl week, I didn’t miss a curfew or do any of the other ridiculous things that are reported. These messages are not only false, they hurt me and my family.”
He went on to say that he “wished that I could have contributed more to win the game. But I have to prepare for the next opportunity. I’m going to do what I always do: work hard and get ready for the next season.”
Butler’s contract in New England expires, shortly after the game he had explained that the coaches “gave up” me. Quarterback Tom Brady replied to Butler’s statement via Instagram with the words:”You are an incredible player, team mate and friend. And always!”
