Olympia 2018: Frenzel also encounters problems when travelling to Pyeongchang
The designated German flag bearer Eric Frenzel, as well as US ski star Lindsay Vonn and the national ice hockey team, was only able to take off for his flight to Seoul with a delay of just under four hours.
The Lufthansa plane, which was scheduled to take off at 4.10 pm in Munich, was unable to take off. A replacement aircraft had to be provided, which did not start until 8 pm and is now expected to arrive at Incheon Airport at 2.35 pm local time.
Nordic Combiner Frenzel, Olympic champion of Sochi, will wear the German flag at the opening ceremony of the Winter Games in Pyeongchang.
The DOSB wants to officially announce the staff at the Deutsches Haus on Thursday at 5 pm OZ/9 am CET. From Incheon it takes about two and a half hours by express train to Pyeongchang.
The fact that Frenzel won the election against speed skater Claudia Pechstein, tobogganist Natalie Geisenberger, ice hockey star Christian Ehrhoff and ski racer Viktoria Rebensburg had already become known on Wednesday.
The combiners were initially scheduled to fly to South Korea on Friday, the day of the opening ceremony. According to SID information, Frenzel was only to take off on the earlier flight in the event of his election as flag bearer.
