Olympics 2018: CAS dismisses 13 Russians’ claim to participate in Olympics
The ad hoc tribunal of the International Sports Court CAS has dismissed 13 Russians’ claim for participation in the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. The court declared itself not competent. The complaint had been filed when the High Court in Pyeongchang had not yet opened.
13 Russian athletes, doctors and coaches had filed a complaint with CAS’s ad hoc court that they had not received an invitation to the Winter Games. Among others, the former speed skating world champion Pavel Kulischnikow and short-track runner Tatjana Borodulina are affected. The exact reasons for the decision will be published on Friday, they said.
47 other cases of Russian athletes and coaches who had not received an invitation due to violations of anti-doping regulations at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi are still pending at CAS. Shorttrack icon Viktor Ahn and biathlon star Anton Schipulin are among the athletes affected. For these proceedings, the court intends to announce the sentences on Friday (11.00 a. m. OZ/03.00 a. m.
