Olympic Games 2018: Matthias Mayer also fourth in second downhill practice
The wind blew into the second downhill practice of the alpine ski men at the Olympic Games, the start had to be postponed on Friday and then shifted to the Super-G start. The fastest in Jeongseon was the South Tyrolean Christof Innerhofer 0.01 seconds ahead of the Norwegian Kjetil Jansrud and 0.44 seconds ahead of the Swiss Beat Feuz. Matthias Mayer was fourth like the day before (0.45).
Mayer and eighth-placed Hannes Reichelt (0.69), however, made a mistake in the scoring:”It’s hard to say how much the wind has affected the whole thing today. It was harder to drive than yesterday, more restless. After yesterday, perhaps everyone underestimated this a little bit,”said downhill Olympic champion Mayer.
After the first practice, the racers had praised the good preparation and described the course as rather simple “But the passages I wanted to drive well, I did very well. That makes me confident,”added the Carinthian.
Max Franz finished 18th (1.35) and Vincent Kriechmayr on 23rd (1.41), with Reichelt and Mayer forming the Olympic downhill quartet for Austria on Sunday. For the combination, Marcel Hirscher also completed the training again, this time with a gap of 3.91, Marco Schwarz finished only 2.16. Another training session is planned for Saturday.
