NBA: After Buyout: Get Rockets Wright
Brandan Wright was bought out of his contract by the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday. Now, according to ESPN, the Big Man will join the Houston Rockets.
Wright was over $18 million in the final year of his three-year contract. After the buyout was finalized with the grizzlies, the 30-year-old immediately became a highly competitive name on the market before the rockets were awarded the contract.
Wright is likely to be another Rockets customer for Chris Paul and James Harden’s complimentary passes and will complement the Big-Man rotation with Clint Capela, Nene and Tarik Black. He didn’t play a role in the grizzlies anymore, because the focus in Memphis has been on younger players for weeks.
Wright scored 5 points and 3.4 rebounds in 27 games for Memphis this season. He had his best season in 2013/14 when he played 9.1 points and 4.3 rebounds from the bank in the Mavericks jersey. He also delivered an average of 1 block in 427 career games.
The rockets held back around the trade deadline and focused more on the buyout market from the outset. Houston is on a 41-13 record after defeating Denver last night on Saturday.
