NBA: Kerr resists criticism:”Crazy world”

Steve Kerr caused a stir at his Golden State Warriors’ game against the Phoenix Suns by letting his players take over coaching during breaks. The Warriors coach has now resisted the fierce criticism.

“I was quickly reminded today of what a crazy world we live in, where everything becomes a story immediately and everyone has to talk and judge about everything,”Kerr said at 95.7 The Game on the radio,”Because everyone has to talk about whether it’s a controversy, it’s probably going to be an automatic one, I guess.”

In the game, Kerr had in the meantime pressed David West, Andre Iguodala and Draymond Green into the tactical board – a move considered disrespectful by many to the Suns. Kerr said:”We have a team full of veterans. I gave them the opportunity to discuss strategy themselves. I don’t think this is a message that shakes the world.”

It could happen that he repeats this despite all the criticism, Kerr continued:”It’s not something we will often do, but it’s a good exercise. The season lasts nine months, which makes everything a bit monotonous. I think you have to do everything you can to ensure that the team has a little variety. That’s why we might do it again. Let’s see.”

While Kerr was criticized for his decision by some players and coaches, others took it with humor, including Sun coach Jay Triano. Tyronn Lue (Cavaliers) also had a humorous reaction:”I wouldn’t do that. Everyone’s saying that LeBron is coaching the team anyway. If I give him the tactical chart, they’d be right.”
