Olympia 2018: Wellinger still trailing in practice – Leyhe ahead of Geiger

Olympic champion Andreas Wellinger has four days after his gold coup from the normal hill still air uphill. In the first training session on the large hill Wellinger reached his best distance of 131.5 m and fourth place in the second jump. Richard Freitag also reached 131.5 m and fifth place.

In the first training session Wellinger was on eleventh place with 124.5 m, in the third jump only 117 m reached him, which meant rank 26th place.

Bronze medallist Robert Johannson made the best impression. The Norwegian with the striking moustache was in front in two of three rounds and, at 138 m, also scored the greatest distance of the day.

In the duel for fourth place on the German grid Stefan Leyhe set an exclamation mark. The Oberstdorfer came in the first training jump to 130.5 m and was at the top of the field. In the other rounds Leyhe was also ahead of his team-internal competitor Karl Geiger (Oberstdorf).

On Thursday the training will be continued with another three jumps. Subsequently, national coach Werner Schuster will have to cancel a jumper for Saturday’s qualification for the competition. From the normal hill, Leyhe had played the spectator role.
