Olympia 2018: Markus Schairer broke his fifth cervical vertebrae

The Austrian snowboard crosser Markus Schairer was badly injured in his fall in the quarter-finals of the Olympic competition at Phoenix Park in Bokwang on Thursday. The 2009 World Champion broke his fifth half-vortex. According to the Austrian Olympic Committee (ÖOC), there are no neurological impairments and consequential damages can be excluded at present.

Furthermore, an elbow injury was found in the Vorarlberg region. The 30-year-old drove himself to the finish line after the crash. He should be flown back to Austria as soon as possible, accompanied by a doctor.
