The MLB All-Star Game 2018 takes place on 17. The event will take place in the Washington/DC National Park, the home of the Washington Nationals. The All-Star Game, also known as Midsummer Classic, is the annual meeting of the two leagues that make up the Major League Baseball, American and National League. The game is accompanied by the so-called All-Star Break, which symbolically represents the division between the first and second half of the season. One day before and two days after the match, there are traditionally no regular season matches.

The All-Star Game 2018 takes place in the night of 17. July 2018 at 2:00 (CEST) on July 2018. The venue this year is the National Park of Washington/DC. In general, the match will take place on the second or third Tuesday in July.

Fans voting exclusively on the Internet since 2015 will vote for the starters – nine in the AL, eight in the NL, as National League teams do not have a designated hitter by default, but both teams use it in the All-Star Game regardless of the venue. The DH of the National League is determined by the team’s manager.

A further 16 players will be chosen by the players, coaches and managers of the two leagues. Of the 16, eight are pitcher, divided into five starters and three reliefs. The other eight are backups for each position in the field. If the players and fans are the same, the second of each position will be invited.

The remaining nine NL and eight AL players are determined by the All-Star managers in coordination with their manager colleagues and the commissioner’s office, resulting in 33 players in each squad. One criterion must be fulfilled: each of the 30 teams in the MLB must have at least one player.

Instead, each player in the winning team will receive $20,000 in prize money.

After the American League’s success in 2017, it has expanded its overall lead somewhat. The AL thus leads in all-time comparison with 44-42-2.

The MLB All-Star Game 2019 will take place at the Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio, the home of the Cleveland Indians. No other All-Star venues have yet been announced. Decisions on this matter are expected in 2018.
