NHL: Next Draisaitl Bankruptcy: Oilers Crash Continues – Vegas Levels Record
Leon Draisaitl and the Edmonton Oilers slide deeper and deeper into the crisis in the NHL. The team around the youngster from Cologne took a 0:1 win at the tail light of Arizona Coyote on Saturday (local time) and thus already the sixth bankruptcy in series. Only two teams have fewer points than Edmonton (50). Meanwhile, the Vegas Golden Knights equal an NHL record.
Draisaitl (22) was left without a shot in 19:01 minutes. In the opponent Tobias Rieder (25) tried it three times unsuccessfully and did not score a score point. Arizona now stands at 44 points.
Philipp Grubauer experienced a bitter evening with the Washington Capitals in the game at the last weak Chicago Blackhawks. With a score of 1:6, the national goalkeeper replaced Braden Holtby after two-thirds of the home team and had to take the lead once in a while. In the end it was 1:7.
On Friday, keeper Thomas Greiss had cleared the way for the New York Islanders to win with a shutdown. The 32-year-old from Füssen held all 45 shots of the opponent at the Carolina Hurricanes 3-0 and deserved special praise.
“He was great,”said coach Doug Weight:”He had confidence, came in and did the job. The day before, Jaroslav Halak, number one of the Islanders, had held 50 shots against the New York Rangers in a 3-0 draw.
Meanwhile, the Vegas Golden Knights equalled a 38-year-old record. After beating record champion Montreal Canadiens 6-3, the new team now has 22 home victories to their credit, and the same number of home victories came to the 1979/80 Hartford Whalers in their premiere season and set the record mark that is still valid today.
The Las Vegas team needed 28 games for the 22 wins, Hartford 40. As early as Monday, the Golden Knights will be able to reach the top of the record list with a win over Anaheim Ducks on their own. In the league they are already at the top with 82 points.
The Hartford Whalers moved to Raleigh in 1997 and have been playing as Carolina Hurricanes in the NHL ever since.
