Olympia 2018: Why Heinz Kuttin has a job guarantee
Austria’s ski jumping team is in a bad position at the moment. But despite missing successes or Olympic medals, ÖSV president Peter Schröcksnadel does not question head coach Heinz Kuttin. Even prophecies of doom and criticism from ex-coach Alexander Pointner recoil unswervingly.
For a long time, the team competition was regarded as the domain of the Austrian eagles. Since the 2005 World Championships, the ÖSV jumpers have won nine gold medals in the team, two of them at Olympic Games. This series will end in Pyeongchang today, Monday. The competition from Poland, Germany and Norway is overwhelming, whereas the form of the domestic jumpers is on the ground.
Former eagle trainer Alexander Pointner, two days ago, pulled out for a round-trip:”Everyone still seems to be softened in the team, still searching for positive aspects and excuses.” A direct attack on his successor Heinz Kuttin, who fled for a long time in optimism of purpose and perseverance slogans. For the ego and self-confidence, the recent defeats at the Four Hills Tournament, the World Ski Flying Championship and the Olympic Games are poisonous: in any other sport, a trainer discussion would not be long in coming.
But Heinz Kuttin does not have to worry about his job, as ÖSV President Peter Schröcksnadel said:”There will be no rush jobs during the season. Because we’re all convinced it won’t do any good. Especially not in such an emotional and mental sport as ski jumping. In the team competition (LIVE in the SPOX ticker) the Austrians can at least rehabilitate themselves a little bit today.
