NBA: Davis:”The same way” as Kevin Garnett?

The New Orleans Pelicans are targeting the play-off race after the All-Star Break. Anthony Davis, however, is still thinking about what would have been possible if DeMarcus’ cousins hadn’t torn their Achilles tendon.

We could have walked through all the playoffs. No one could really have stopped us as Big Men. We could have made it to the finals,”said Davis on ESPN,”Rajon Rondo reminded us:’ You two are the best big men in the league. I know what it takes to win a title; we’ve got it.'”

Davis and Cousins were well on their way to being the first team mates in history to play 25 points and 10 rebounds each. Cousins, however, injured himself on 26. It will be difficult on 1 January and will not be able to intervene this season. The center had played its best season to date (25.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, 5.4 assists per game).

Since the injury, the Pelicans have had a 4-5 record:”When he got hurt, it was back in front of DeMarcus that the weight of the world was on my shoulders,”Davis explained,”I have to score 40 points almost every night to get a chance to win. You have to have this Russell Westbrook mentality, so to speak. I think everything is pretty open in the west between 3rd and 10th place. That’s why we need to stay on the line.”

Davis also remarked, however, that merely reaching the playoffs would not be enough for him. He wants to win titles and has become thoughtful in that he heard former players like Kevin Garnett, who in their opinion had waited too long to ask for a trade. The situation around cousins, who will become a Free Agent in the summer, also contributes to this.

“It makes you think because you’re wondering if you’re on the same path,”Davis said of Garnett,”but then you say to yourself:’ This year it could be that far, so you just have to see from year to year and assess the direction in which the team is heading.”

Davis is currently in his sixth season with the Pelicans and “The Brow” is still under contract with the Pelicans until summer 2021.
