Olympia 2018: Cross-country skiing: Norway wins team sprint, third gold medal for Kläbo

Norway’s new cross-country ski trail king Johannes Hösflot Kläbo won his next gold medal in the team sprint at the Pyeongchang Winter Games. The 21-year-old won after 6×1.4 km together with Martin Johnsrud Sundby ahead of Denis Spitsow and Alexander Bolschunow as well as the Frenchman Maurice Manificat and Richard Jouve and thus triumphed for the third time after the classic sprint and the 4×10 km relay.

The German duo Thomas Bing (Dermbach) and Sebastian Eisenlauer (Sonthofen) finished tenth and last in the final as Nicole Fessel (Oberstdorf) and Sandra Ringwald (Schonach) did.

“We were a little euphoric about the run before. I wanted a little too much. When the post went off properly, we had a little bit of air out of it,”said Bing on ZDF.

For Norway, it is already the sixth cross-country skiing gold medal of the winter games. No nation has ever done that before. As the first cross-country skier, Kläbo still has the chance to win four gold medals at one and the same Olympic Winter Games.

On Tuesday of last week he was promoted to the youngest cross-country ski Olympic champion in history. On Saturday the men’s 50 km mass start will be in classic style (14.00 hrs OZ/06.00 hrs CET).
