Olympia 2018: Ehrhoff carries German flag at the closing ceremony
Ice hockey player Christian Ehrhoff will wear the German flag at the closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Pyeongchang. This was announced by DOSB President Alfons Hörmann on Saturday evening, local time in Pyeongchang.
“For me personally, this is a great honour. But I see it as representing the team, not the hockey team, but the whole team D. This team spirit is simply great, it’s a tremendous joy and honour to be part of this team,”said Ehrhoff.
The defender of the Cologne sharks, who was already in the pre-selection for the flag bearer at the opening ceremony, had sensationally reached the final of the Olympic tournament on Friday with the team of the German Ice Hockey Association by winning 4:3 against Canada. It is the biggest success so far for German ice hockey. In the final game on Sunday (13.10 o’ clock OZ/5.10 CET) the DEB-selection meets the high favourite Russia. The final round ends about four hours before the closing ceremony.
Combiner Eric Frenzel wore the flag at the opening ceremony. The selection for the closing ceremony on Sunday (8.00 pm OZ/12.00 pm CET) was made by the German delegation management with Hörmann, DOSB chairman Veronika Rücker and chief of mission Dirk Schimmelpfennig.
“We reached him at the ARD studio a quarter of an hour ago. We made our decision with great unanimity and unanimity, also under the impression of what happened yesterday,”said Hörmann with a view to the semi-final against Canada.
