Olympia 2018: Cross-country skiing drama: Stadlober loses his way to silver medal
A blackout has cost cross-country skier Teresa Stadlober a classic medal in the final Olympic competition over 30 km. The 25-year-old from Salzburg, who was in second place, briefly turned into the wrong loop after 20 kilometres and ended up in ninth place. However, a subsequent disqualification is also possible.
The Norwegian Marit Björgen, who wrote history with it, won gold in a sovereign manner. The 37-year-old gave in the last decision of XXIII. Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang set the pace from the very beginning and clearly set itself apart from the competition even before the half time of the race. After her eighth Olympic victory, Björgen leads the ranking of the most successful participants in the Winter Games with eight times gold, four times silver and three times bronze – a total of 15 medals.
Behind Björgen the Finnish Krista Pärmäkoski (+1:49.5 min.) and Stina Nilsson (1:58.9) from Sweden won the next medals. Norway set a new winter record with a total of 14 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze medals. In South Korea, Germany (14/10/7/7) also surpassed the previous record set by Canada (14/7/5) in 2010.
