Olympia 2018: Most successful winter olympics: Björgen after victory at the top
Cross-country skier Marit Björgen triumphed over 30 km in the last Olympic competition in Pyeongchang, replacing her Norwegian compatriot Ole Einar Björndalen as the most successful athlete in the history of the Winter Games. Björgen (37) now stands at eight times gold, four times silver and three times bronze, Biathlete Björndalen at 8-4-1.
Norway’s success on the final day of the event put the German Olympic team at the top of the medal table. Norway (14 gold, 14 silver, 11 bronze) finished ahead of Germany (14-10-7) and Canada (11-8-10).
Björgen won 1:22:17.6 hours ahead of Krista Pärmäkoski (Finland/1:49.5 minutes back) and Stina Nilsson (Sweden/+1:58.9).
As the best German starter, Stefanie Böhler (Ibach) finished 16th with a gap of 6:24.6 minutes to the top. Katharina Hennig (Oberwiesenthal/+7:31.3) also finished 19th place, too. in the top 20. Victoria Carl (Zella-Mehlis/+10:24.8) finished in 25th place.
