Quarterback Aaron Rodgers enters the penultimate year of his contract with the Green Bay Packers in 2018 – and has long been a bargain for the packers in view of the development of the cap. Talks about a new deal are already underway, and it is likely to be expensive.

“We had talks with his advisors,”Packers president Mark Murphy told ESPN. Green Bay’s new managing director Brian Gutekunst and vice president Russ Ball are already involved in the negotiations.

Murphy continued:”I am very confident about Brian and Russ and also about Aaron. We want to create a win-win situation,” says Rodgers, who became the best paid player in the NFL when Rodgers signed his new five-year contract in 2013 – this benchmark will be met again.

Jimmy Garoppolo is currently the best paid player in the league, but presumably only until Kirk Cousins signs his free agency contract. Rodgers’ advisors will be able to closely observe the quarterback carousel during this off-season and then make their demands to Packers on the basis of this.

Rodgers is still under contract in 2018 and 2019, with the comparatively inexpensive cap hits of 20.5 and 21.1 million dollars. The 34-year-old could sign a new contract in Green Bay this summer when the quarterback market has recalibrated.
