MLB: Chicago Cubs shave the Harre for childhood cancer research

Numerous Chicago Cubs players and coaches have been shaved bare to support the Respect Bald benefit event, which manager Joe Maddon has now hosted for the fourth time in a row. The proceeds of the campaign will go to research into cancer cases in children.

Players who had their heads shaved included stars such as Anthony Rizzo and Mike Montgomery. Of course, Maddon also participated in the campaign herself.

In addition, Rizzo, Jon Lester, Ben Zobrist and Jason Heyward each donated $10,000 to help Cubs Triple A manager Marty Pevey’s 21-year-old son cut his long brown hair. The Cubs had surprised Pevey by flying his family, his wife, daughter and son into the training camp in Mesa/Arizona.

Maddon explained after his shave that his dark hair would eventually grow back “silvery”. He said he started dyeing last year because his wife liked it.

It may disappoint some people, but my wife supports it and that’s all that matters,”Maddon explained with a wink.
