MLB: Rays engage Carlos Gomez to replace Steven Souza Jr.
Carlos Gomez has signed a one-year contract with Tampa Bay Rays. The outfielder was most recently active for the Texas Rangers.
In Florida, Gomez will earn four million dollars and most likely become the starter in the right field. Here the Rays had a gap to fill after Steven Souza Jr. left, who was sent to the Arizona Diamondbacks via a three-team trade with the New York Yankees.
The 32-year-old beat 255 for the Rangers in 2017 with 17 home runs and 23 doubles. He also brought it to 51 RBI and 13 stolen bases in 105 games.
The total amount of the deal may increase by a maximum of $500,000 based on the number of games that Gomez makes. Each 100,000 dollars is due for 80,90,100,110 and 120 games.
Gomez has been playing at the MLB for eleven years and was active for the Mets, Twins, Brewers and Astros alongside the Rangers. During this time he was twice National League All-Star and beat. 256 with 133 homeruns and 504 RBI.
