Cycling: Paris-Nice: Greipel third at the victory of Groenewegen
German professional cyclist Andre Greipel (Rostock/Lotto-Soudal) missed out on the second leg of the Paris-Nice long-distance trip. The 35-year-old Greipel finished in third place after 187 flat kilometres from Orsonville to Vierzon in the victory of Dutchman Dylan Groenewegen (LottoNL-Jumbo) in the mass sprint. Phil Bauhaus (Bocholt/Sunweb) in fourth place and John Degenkolb (Gera/Trek-Segafredo) in ninth place rounded off a good overall German result.
In the overall standings, Frenchman Arnaud Demare (Groupama-FDJ), who won the opening stage on Sunday, continues to lead ten seconds ahead of his compatriot Julian Alaphilippe (Quick-Step Floors). After two stages with a gap of 15 seconds behind Demare Degenkolb, the best German is eighth place.
On Tuesday the exact 210 km long stage from Bourges to Chatel-Guyon with three mountain rankings of the third category is scheduled. The 76. The 8th edition of the “Journey to the Sun” covers a total of eight stages and 1187 kilometres to Nice.
