NBA: Rookie Watch Vol. 5: Lonzo clears the field from behind

The Rookie Watch is back and after a good 60 games the image of many newcomers is consolidated. The first two of them seem to be carved in stone, but both Lonzo Ball and Josh Jackson have improved a lot lately.

Daniel Theis remains a constant while Maxi Kleber has to fight for minutes.

Daniel Theis

Last Daniel Theis missed two games because of problems with his thigh, but otherwise he is running for the big one. For example, he set a new career high with 19 points (8/10 FG) against the pistons. Coach Brad Stevens is also satisfied with his development:”He delivers consistently good performances. We benefit greatly from this,”Stevens told Mass Live. For Stevens, Theis is an excellent foursome:”Because of his lateral speed, he can defend both inside and outside.”

In the meantime, Theis has also become more accustomed to playing in the NBA,”I think he’s getting used to the rules. In the beginning we often had the problem that he fouled a lot, especially at the basket. He’s doing much better now,”Stevens continued. The coach mostly preferred the former Bamberger to Greg Monroe, who has not yet arrived in Boston with the exception of the game in Houston. Especially defensive, Theis has a clear lead over Moose.

Maxi glue

Meanwhile Maxi Kleber has lost his place in the rotation of the Mavs lately. Coach Rick Carlisle continues to experiment with his lineups and most recently the German (also DNPs) was one of the victims. The performances of glue had also diminished a little bit, although the defense continued to be very solidly true.

The downtown rate in February is absolutely devastating (9.1 percent). After all, he provided an absolute highlight when he was allowed to play the Los Angeles Lakers in the Crunchtime and decided the game by a furious Dunk over Julius Randle.
