MLB: Kansas City Royals engage outfielder Jon Jay

The Kansas City Royals and outfielder Jon Jay have agreed on a one-year contract worth three million dollars plus lucrative performance bonuses. Jay returns to the state of Missouri.

As AP reports, Jay could earn an additional $1.5 million to achieve a set number of Plate Appearances. For 250 PA he would get an extra 100.000 dollars, after that it would be another 100.000 dollars in steps of 25 up to 600 PA.

Nevertheless, this contract is an enormous pay cut for Jay, who had earned eight million dollars in Chicago Cubs’ service last year. To make room in the squad, Royals starter Jesse Hahn relied on the 60-Day Disabled List.

Last year, Jay beat 296 in 141 games for the Cubs, after having played for San Diego in 2016. In 2010, Jay started his MLB career at St. Peter’s. Louis Cardinals, with whom he won the 2011 World Series. He played there until the end of 2015.

In eight years, Jay had 33 home runs and 287 with a. 288 stroke average and 103 OPS+ in a total of 988 games.
