NFL: Eagles trades Torrey Smith to the Panthers
The Philadelphia Eagles have split up with Torrey Smith – and in return, they have been able to get something. The Super Bowl champ traded the receiver, which would otherwise have been dismissed, to the Carolina Panthers on Friday.
In return, the Eagles will receive a surprise Panthers Cornerback Daryl Worley. The deal comes unexpectedly, as Smith is increasingly limited as a player and not much more than a speed option.
On the other hand, he also brings a cap hit of five million dollars for the coming season. Worley on the other side is a young cornerback who has two more years left on his rookie contract (cap hits over 670,000 and 755,000 dollars).
The Panthers are in desperate need of wide-receiver help, but the bottom line is that the fans in Carolina hope that Smith won’t be much more than Receiver number 3 at the start of the coming season. Carolina is a candidate to enter the race for Sammy Watkins or Allen Robinson.
