NBA: Leonard return on Thursday?
After Kawhi Leonard missed most of the current season due to injury, San Antonio Spurs’ Small Forward could be making a comeback on Thursday, according to media reports.
A few weeks ago Spurs coach Gregg Popovich told the media that he no longer expects Leonard to return this season. After numerous setbacks in the healing process of his complicated quadriceps injury, Leonard had played just nine games in the 2017/18 season.
At the beginning of this week, however, Leonard spoke for himself. He plans to make his comeback “soon”, says the 26-year-old. Now Lisa Salters of ESPN reports that the two-time defensive player of the year could be in the Spurs squad as early as Thursday’s match against the New Orleans Pelicans.
Anonymous sources from her ESPN colleague Adrian Wojnarowski confirmed the report. If there is no further setback, Leonard will be in the Spurs lineup on Thursday, writes Woj. The Spurs can use the support of the final MVP of 2014 well. After the defeat against the Thunders, San Antonio is only seventh in the Western Conference – ten of the past 13 games were lost.
