MLB: Tigers: Francisco Liriano will pitch in the starting rotation
Left-handed Francisco Liriano will be part of the Detroit Tigers’ starting rotation. This was announced by manager Ron Gardenhire on Sunday. Previously it was unclear whether the pitcher would not appear as a relief.
On Sunday, Liriano had three more shut-out innings against Atlanta Braves in the jumping practice game against Atlanta Braves. He came on four strikeouts and only two walks.
“Liriano fights no one. We brought him here on purpose. I think we need his experience in rotation. And if he’s healthy and in good spirits, I’m sure he’ll be right there,”Gardenhire told reporters.
Last year Liriano was 6-7 with a 5.66 ERA. He started the year as a starter for the Blue Jays and made 18 starts, then went into the Bullpen for the Houston Astros (20 bets), with which he won the World Series.
Overall, Liriano is 102-99 in twelve years at MLB. From 2006 to 2012 he played under Gardenhire at the Minnesota Twins.
