NFL: Cardinals engage Sam Bradford
The Arizona Cardinals have addressed their biggest construction site for the first time: The Cards have agreed with Sam Bradford on a one-year contract with an option for a second year – but are unlikely to be finished on the position yet.
According to NFL network insider Ian Rapoport, this is a one-year $20 million contract with $15 million in guarantees. A second year is therefore built in via an option for another 20 million dollars. According to further reports from Arizona, there will be some contractual team coverage for injuries.
The Cardinals entered the off-season with a curious situation: Due to several expiring contracts and the resignation of Carson Palmer, Arizona was under contract without a single quarterback. Bradford is scheduled – as the contract also reveals – as a starter for 2018. But further steps will follow on the position.
The cards are expected to remain active in the free agency market and will be looking for a backup – possibly Mike Glennon or Josh McCown. Bradford’s constant health problems are also likely to further increase the likelihood of Arizona getting a quarterback in the first round of drafts.
