NFL: Saints lengthen with quarterback Drew Brees
For a few hours it seemed as if the situation around Drew Brees might actually be uncomfortable for the New Orleans Saints. But only half a day after the negotiation window was opened, Brees and the Saints agreed on a new deal.
According to consistent reports, including NFL network insider Ian Rapoport and ESPN insider Adam Schefter, Brees’ new contract in New Orleans is two years and up to $50 million. Of this amount, 27 million dollars are to be guaranteed. After the first contract year, the Saints have a team option for the second year, according to Schefter.
The treaty is due to be signed on Tuesday, Brees’ old working paper was structured in such a way that it would end at the start of the new league year – and if he had actually left the Saints with 18 million dollars to Dead Cap, he would have left New Orleans.
On Monday, when prospective Free Agents were allowed to start negotiations with other teams, the rumors had been heard. Among other things, the Minnesota Vikings had probably asked Brees.
