MLB: MLB warns Yankees after Judge comments on Machado
Aaron Judge has caused some unrest between the New York Yankees and the MLB. Before the Baltimore Orioles jumping practice game on Wednesday Judge O’s superstar Manny Machado told us that he would like to have him on his side. The league reacted with irritation.
Before the game in Sarasota/Florida, Judge said to reporters:”To add Machado to the lineup that we already have anyway would be something special.”
Judge reported that Machado only laughed about it and didn’t really respond to it. Judge characterized the conversation as a small talk:”We talked a little bit and I just asked him what his off-season was like and how he is doing. I asked him how he liked the shortstop position and said:’ You’d look great in pinstripes too.'”
The MLB, however, reacted with irritation to the statements it saw as possible tampering. The league’s statement said:”We were in contact with the Yankees. And they communicated to us that Mr. Judge’s spontaneous statements were inappropriate and not authorized by the club. They’ll talk to him and make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
Machado, who will be playing as a regular shortstop for the first time this season, will become a free agent at the end of the season and is already being associated with the Yankees in the media. Rumor has it that the Bronx Bombers even tried to trade for him this winter, but the O’s eventually blocked all trade enquiries, including those of other teams.
