MLB: New York Yankees send Third-Base-Prospect to the Minor Leagues

The New York Yankee squad is starting to take shape. On Sunday, the Bronx Bombers sent Miguel Andujar to the Minor Leagues. Thus the competition seems to be decided on the third base.

As an option, the Yankees sent Andujar, who was named Yankees Minor League Player of the Year 2017 on Sunday, to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. This should also make it clear that newcomer Brandon Drury will start the season as the team’s third baseman. He came in a few weeks ago via Trade from the Arizona Diamondbacks.

While Andujar made a very good impression in jumping training and beat in 14 games.262 with 4 home runs and 10 RBI, he still had some defensive deficits. In the Minors, that’s exactly what he’s supposed to be working on.

“I had a long conversation with him and I told him to just go downstairs and keep improving, keep working on himself, and then it won’t be long before he finally gets up here,” said manager Aaron Boone after the decision was announced.

Another rookie who was considered for a starter job was Gleyber Torres, who was sent to the Minors last week. He was a candidate for the second-base job, which is now newcomer Neil Walker and all-rounder Tyler Wade.

Boone stated that Torres would be used in the Minors both as a second baseman and as a shortstop in his traditional position.

It has also been announced over the past few days that Luis Severino will receive the prestigious start on Opening Day. The right-hander was pleased with the news:”It is an honour. I was happy. After they told me, I called my mother right away. It’s something to celebrate.”
