MLB: Greinke does not start on Opening Day for Arizona

Zack Greinke will not pitch unexpectedly on the opening day for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The right-handed person is held back after groin problems.

Manager Tory Lovullo said Greinke would be cautious after he was replaced after only one inning on Wednesday due to groin problems.

“Every pitching staff has a number 1 and Greinke is a perfect match”, Lovullo praised his Ace: “He won 17 games last year. He was our Ace.”

However, it is unclear who will play against the Colorado Rockies at home on Opening Day instead of Greinke. Lovullo didn’t want to commit himself yet. The Associated Press speculates that Robbie Ray is the logical alternative as he had his best season last year. He was 15-5 with a 2.89 ERA and 218 strikeouts over 162 innings.

As far as Greinke is concerned, the D-backs at least do not expect a serious injury. Greinke said he felt good after a bullpen session on Sunday. His next start will be on Wednesday against San Francisco.
