NFL: Sherman to the Seahawks: “Will be at the center of rivalry”

On Tuesday Richard Sherman was introduced to the San Francisco 49ers – and as expected the cornerback did not hold back. Sherman commented on his contract and also had a declaration of war with the Seattle Seahawks.

“The rivalry is what it is. And I’m sure she’ll revive,” Sherman made clear with his ex-team in mind, adding: “I’ll be back at the centre of this rivalry. But in the end, I came here to win games.”

Sherman also commented on his contract in San Francisco. The cornerback now does without a consultant and represents himself, many experts are of the opinion that he has received a team-friendly contract from the 49ers.

“The biggest miscalculation is that it’s a bad deal,” Sherman made clear, “compared to my last deal in Seattle, I had no guarantees. If we compare it with that, I just came back from a tear of the Achilles tendon and had no more guarantees – where are my securities?”

The contract in San Francisco, on the other hand, “guarantees me five million dollars. And I get a chance to make more money than I could have made in Seattle. No matter if I would have played there on an All-Pro-Level or not. And that’s what I wanted. When I look at my potential, I see a certainty here in the coming years. And that makes me feel very comfortable.”

Sherman had already shot Seahawks coach Pete Carroll a few days ago: “His philosophy is more suitable for college,” stressed the 29-year-old.

In addition, Seattle has taken the wrong path in dealing with its players: “I think they have gone a little off their own path when we talk about how they see players and how they value them. The team’s pillars are less valued, you’re curious about the younger players and the unknown.”
